MY CALIFORNIA PRUNE FACE!

August 22nd, 2010

I live in what the world calls sunny Southern California.  Like the rest of the world we have had an odd summer.  And I know that people are going to the beaches this week and soaking up that warm and wonderful sun.

Me too, I hurried up and ran off to the beach…oops but I forgot to put on sunscreen and I paid the price, my face got burnt. I didn’t think about it until someone said your face is red.  Oops, I forgot. I felt bad because I knew better.  I was just not thinking, I was so excited to have sunny days I just went outside not properly protected and my face looked bad, dried up like a prune.

Why is it so important to watch your skin, which took me many years to understand?

Just 20 years ago skin cancer was not a problem and skin problems were only something that old folks had to worry about.  But today that has all changed.  Approximately 1 out 5 Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime.  Skin cancer is the most common cancer that doctors treat.

To prevent skin cancer.

  • Try and stay out of the sun 10am – 4pm(daily light savings), the photo was taken 5pm.
  • Put sunscreen on your skin, cover well with at least 15SPF (sun protection factor) or higher to block the sun’s harmful rays.
  • Start with babies, skin conditions can start early and only show up later in life. Most skin cancers appear after the age of 45.
  • People of highest risk are those with light hair and light eyes, but even dark skin gets burnt.
  • Where you live makes a difference.  Some areas have higher UV radiation, for example Texas has higher UV rays than Minnesota.  The highest worldwide is South Africa and Australia.
  • Wear protective clothing, big hat, and long sleeves or sit umbrella.
  • It does not have to hot or a bright sun; it is the angle of sun’s rays that does the damage.

Another key ingredient in good skin health is nutrition.  Most people forget that the skin is the largest organ of our body.  If you look at someone’s skin you can usually assess their health.

Bright, vibrant skin can indicate a healthy person.  Dry, discolored skin would say that the person is not in the best of health.

“Your skin is the fingerprint of what is going on inside your body, and all skin conditions, from psoriasis to acne to aging, are the manifestations of your body’s internal needs, including its nutritional needs,” says Georgiana Donadio, PhD, DC, MSc, founder and director of the National Institute of Whole Health in Boston.”

I have been fortunate to find a good source of nutritional supplements and skincare products. That is why I felt so bad when I did not THINK and did not properly protect my skin.

enjoy

MY MANY HATS..tradtion meets innovation..part 2

August 15th, 2010

Hi everyone,

Last week I shared with you a traditional event that has occurred in Santa Barbara, California since 1924 our” Old Spanish Days” Celebration.  I talked about where tradition meets innovation.  That we can duplicate what went before but we need to enhance it with new technology.

I want to apply this tradition meets technology to my life.

I wear many hats.   I am a ceramic artist, a grandmother, a teacher, and a network marketer.

I have worn a hat as a professional ceramic artist and art teacher for over 40 years.  I have been in the state of learning the entire time.  I attend classes, workshops, read books, belong to ceramic organizations, and experiment.   I do not hide in my studio and hope that all this new knowledge and new innovations will come knocking on my door.

Another hat I wear is that of a network marketer.

I have been a network marketer for 10 years.  Lucky for me, I picked the right company and have been with them the entire time.  When I first started I was trained to promote my company thru meetings, cold calls, of course talk to my warm market and attend trainings and the yearly international convention.  For me these methods were fun, because I learned and met new people in my same company.  BUT I did not build a business; a few people joined me as business partners, but soon left.  As a result I floundered and flopped around for 7 years, knowing that this worked but I did not have a clue how.

Introducing…. tradition meets innovation. After I retired from working outside the home I knew that network marketing was what I wanted to conquer.  I saw that it worked for others, so I knew that it would work for me.  But how????????????

The answer was the internet, but how?  I knew there were other people online that were looking for what I had, an opportunity to change their lives but how was I to reach them.

I Found a brilliant and season networker, Maggie Lancy to help in my journey.  She too was looking for something better.

The missing link was the answer, an online marketing systems.  Which one, there are many.  I tried a few but  I needed something that was easy, plug and play, high tech, with lots of industry training, protected data base and good support system.

Again I was lucky.  I found what I was looking for.  I will always call it the missing link, an online marketing, management and training system.

  • It was a way for me to showcase me and my company.
  • Have a place to track and follow up with my personal contacts (no more sticky notes lost somewhere).
  •  A way to validate the industry of network marketing thru videos by Robert Kiyosaki,  eBooks, CNN reports.
  •  Be able work and learn online from other industry leaders.
  •  Being in the trenches with new technology: YouTube, facebook, skype,
  • Keep up with internet technology.
  •  And for me the biggest plus is to have now an international team of network marketers from different companies working together.

Now, my grandmother hat, the one most dear to my heart.   I have 10 grandkids at all different ages.  I can truly help them in so many ways because I am connected. They know that their grandmother is in pace with the world, that I am Skype talking with people in South Africa, Singapore, United Kingdom, Australia and I can share what I am doing with them.  I am not sitting in a rocker knitting socks.

I would say that tradition meeting technology for me has been a win-win situation. Now as I said there are many systems on the market for any of the hats that you wear but do your homework and choose wisely.  Be plugged into the 21st century.  Technology is out there for all of us…

Denis Waitley puts it so easily, “If you are not online, you are in the breadline”.

Enjoy life,

rebecca

WHERE TRADTION MEETS INOVATION..part one

Importance of Tradition in Santa Barbara

Reading blogs is so much fun and we want to add something of value. I would love to share something beautiful that happens in my city every year.

I have the pleasure of living in beautiful Santa Barbara, California and every year since 1924 we have celebrated what we call” Old Spanish Days”.  It is a long time tradition for most of the city’s residents to become involved in some way, either participating or as a spectator.  The biggest daytime event is the Friday Parade and most businesses, including banks close down so their employees can participate.

The 4 day event starts out Wednesday night with a display under the stars on the steps of the Old Santa Barbara Mission of flamenco and native dancers in colorful handmade dress.

Nonprofit organizations set up food booths in several city locations, where locals and guests visit for 4 days of fun and festivities. At most locations there is a stage set up for more flamenco dancing and singing.

The Sunken Gardens at the Santa Barbara Court House hosts on a nightly basis special dance performances by the many local dance companies.  It is tradition for many of the Latin families to groom their young daughters beginning as toddlers into becoming flamenco dancers.  They all work toward  being  the “Spirit of Santa Barbara” which is a juried position and this young lady reigns as the “spirit” of the entire event of Old Spanish Days”.

On Friday the largest equestrian parade in the USA marches up the main street of the City with large floats decorated with flowers with dignitaries, dancers and musicians on board.

And on Saturday morning the Children’s Parade where hundreds of children collect to walk, dance, bike down the main street dressed in their special Fiesta outfits.

It is the tradition, being something that is repeated year after year of a continuing event, duplication of activities, etc.

But what does tradition have to do with working online.  Everything, if you do not duplicate what went before, how do you expect to move forward.  The ground work has been laid with the addition of modern technology.

I will continue this idea of tradition meets inovation  in next week’s blog post.

Enjoy,

rebecca

This is how it started:

“Welcome to Old Spanish Days Fiesta! As El Presidente 2010, it is my honor and privilege to invite you to this year’s Fiesta. Eighty-six years ago, the Lobero Theater was completed, and members of the Community Arts Association were planning opening ceremonies. Ten of Santa Barbara’s prominent citizens envisioned an event that would, “appeal to the carnival spirit lurking in everyone, and at the same time perpetuate Santa Barbara’s picturesque early days’ atmosphere”. The three-day event would include the show “The Beggar on Horseback”, an early day costume pageant, and several parades in which every organization in town was asked to enter a float. From that daring event, Fiesta was born, and to this day continues to celebrate Santa Barbara’s unique spirit, history, cultures and traditions that we know as Old Spanish Days Fiesta.”

DON’T LET SUMMER KICK YOUR BUTT!

August 1st, 2010

OR IS YOUR SUMMER KICKING YOUR BUTT!!

YOU STILL HAVE TIME?  One more month or partial month depending on school schedules.

Sorry, I am not being rude to my dear friends below the equator, this you can plan during your winter and have a head start on your upcoming summer.

Summer technically is only 3 months of the year.  A time for skinny dipping, family picnics or BBQs, camping, traveling, and just being outside.

What if you work a 9am-5pm job, or two jobs?  What if you can not enjoy your summer months with your kids and family?

For me that would be a sad day.  And for some others they may be angry all the rest of the year.

I have just talked with a friend of mine and that is just what happened to her, one week more of summer and it is back to work.  Hmm.  And she is not happy and may stay that way for all of next year.

A GREAT SOLUTION:

Work for yourself, create your own schedule, work from your home or better still have a laptop and cell phone and work anywhere there is a cell phone tower.

Naturally I am not trying to be rude to my international friends that do have internet connection problems and service is never a guarantee.  I admire you for your tenacity.

WHERE TO START!

If you decide to work from home…what do you do first?  Get educated…listen to a Youtube video or read a book written by Robert Kiyosaki.  Know something about a homebased business or network marketing.

Do some research, talk with people who are already involved in the network marketing business, and please do not fall for the first hype or big deal that comes along.  Usually it is just that, a big deal that may go sour soon.  Here are some guidelines I would use:

  • Pick a product you can support.  If it is something that is consumable like vitamins, customers will need each month.  People will only need one tractor.
  • Pick a company with a good track record, have been around for a while, have outstanding leaders.
  • Look at why the company was started.  Was it just to make money or is it doing something to help others.
  • Look carefully at the compensation plan, is it possible for you to make money, just starting out today.
  • What kind of training do they offer you as a new person just starting.
  • What kind of support are you guaranteed….check with some of the other new people.  Don’t let someone talk you into a company and then leave you.
  • Trust your instincts.

So summer is not over…you have 30 days more to do this…start now if you are serious.  Then if you decide to take this road to time and financial freedom, stick with it.  Don’t quit after the first disappointment, person saying no to your opportunity, failed meeting…or whatever…Step back and remember why you decided to do this in the first place.

Enjoy rebecca

TIPS TO WRITING A GOOD BLOG POST!

July 17th, 2010

12450047823uiftL

How important is it to have a blog?

  • A way to reach a new audience on the internet.
  • A way to express yourself.
  • A way to provide your reader with valuable information that you have previously learned.
  • A way to connect with other bloggers.
  • A way to build a business online.

I am an online network marketer and I have been blogging for almost 3 years now.  I find that it is one of the satisfying ways to have other people learn more about me.  As I have gone along this journey on internet jouralism I have learned some important tips.

MY BLOGGING TIPS!

  1. Start with a good title…ie …tips on writing a good blog, internet curtsey, how important is an alexa rating, or lighter subjects, importance of not quitting, etc.
  2. Support that title throughout the blog post. Don’t start writing about the tax benefits of a HBB and then switch up to attraction marketing.
  3. It is okay to want to use someone else’s blog post but credit them for writing it.
  4. Reference who you are and what you do by putting in hyperlinks.
  5. IMPORTANT: Be interesting, make your reader wants to come back for more.
  6. Short and Sweet, no one wants to read a lot to get the idea.  Make your point and get out. If it is a long subject, break it into several different posts.
  7. Be clear on your topic, so anyone can understand.
  8. Place keywords into the blog post for google readers to come and visit…ie network marketing, home based business, etc.
  9. Use good grammer, use your spell check.

Hope this was helpful, if not ask me to qualify.

Thanks for reading my blog,

Look forward to connecting more with you,

rebecca

YOUR NEST EGG, IS IT IN PLACE!!!!!

July 11th, 2010

1227672136xK6vyh

Hello everyone,
The World Cup is over, brilliant matches, players and a chance to meet other countries.
The tenacity and hard work pays off only if you stay with it. A lesson for all of us who want to succeed.

But that is not what I was going to write about.

Each week when I sit down to write my blog post, many subjects pass my desk but this stood out as most important.
An article from the AARP, the retired folks magazine, July, August 2010 magazine caught my attention, “Where Do We Go From Here?”
The article is dealing with Social Security, this mainly concerns the people in the USA. But if you live outside of the States, you may have a similar program.
And this applies to all of us, either directly, yourself or your parents, but if not now it will at some time.
I am presently retired, worked as an art consultant most of my working days with no retirement plan, so now I have to deal with Social Security.
I suggest to all my readers, please do not wait like me to start your Plan B. In my case it was a home based business. If I had been smart I would have been more serious in building my network marketing business 10 years ago, I would be closer to my dreams.

Why am I bringing this up?
Look at these statistics:
• Social security is a 75 year old giant.
• The Federal budget deficit presses into it.
• Talk is, in order to save money, cut the benefits to workers retiring 10-15-20 years from now.
• “Workers who are 55 or younger in 2011 would see their future benefits reduced.”
• Social Security is primarily financed by a 12.4% payroll tax.
• Right now 53 million Americans are receiving benefits.
• For 25 years, we have been paying in, now has a $2.5 trillion reserve fund invested in government bonds.
• This year with high unemployment and recession, less money goes in and so now money is drawing on that reserve fund.
• “The Congressional Budget Office estimates that reserve fund and payroll taxes will cover full payment of benefits for another 33 years.”
Naturally they are working on solutions to this:

• Increase the eligibility age.
• Increase payroll and estate taxes.
• Diversify the reserve funds.
Conclusion from the article is:
“Senator Herb Kohl, D-Wis who chairs the Special Commission on the Aging says, with modest tweaks , we can ensure solvency and the even strengthen benefits for those who count on their monthly check the most.”

Okay I would like to be more realistic, why wait, why depend, why worry about your investments because we saw what has happened to the economy recently. The market changes and it affects us all. We still have not reached the bottom of this recession yet,I know it will change but why ever put yourself in that delicate position.

My solution is to get out of your own way and start building a residual income. There are many ways of doing that, I chose network marketing.
If you want to stay ahead of the economic ups and downs, I would suggest take time and research the thousands of differing network marketing companies.
Use these criterias:
• A good consumable product, “you can only buy one tractor”.
• A company of integrity, there for the long run.

• Upstanding leaders.
• Good compensation plan for the average person.
•A company has a good track record.

I suggest you do not wait, but do it now. No time start slowly, but do it. You will never be sorry.

Thanks for listening,
rebecca

“I HAVE WASTED ANOTHER PERFECTLY GOOD DAY.”

July 4th, 2010

 1192119524oVAmUi

Hi everyone,

Welcome to a new week.

I love getting up each day and looking forward to what great new things will be happening today.

·         Who will be my new friend?

·        What idea, word, statement will pass by that will inspire me?

·        What smell will trigger a memory?

·        What new program or technique will be introduced?

·        With which family member or friend will I share a happy moment?

·        Where will I go new, physically or mentally?

·        ETC.

My biggest challenge each and every day is how am I going to fit all that in.  I figure I sleep about 8 hrs a day, that leaves 16 hrs and I have yet to find a place where I can buy more minutes.

So the best way to deal with my day is to plan it.

I have three passions in life…I am a network marketer, a grandmother and an artist

How do I work this without going crazy or being depressed because I have not accomplished anything.

I PLAN IT!

You make a daily plan, put it in writing, and post the plan where you can see it.

1.      I start each day with personal development, read or listen to a tape, book or video of a motivation person I admire.

2.      Since I work from home, I open up the computer and do my daily tasks for building my HBB. I do have a list of what needs to be done.

3.      Excerise and good nutritition is vital so that is next on my list.

4.      Depending on the time and day, I return to the computer and complete my daily HBB tasks.

5.      Now I have time to either play with my grandchildren, make a new art piece, or work on promoting my art gallery or do something different.

6.      At the end of each day, I try to have learned or done something new for me or someone else.

That is a lot to keep up with, but so I do I record on a piece of paper my progress.  If I do not, it would be easy for me to not complete all of my daily tasks.  And naturally, some days do not go according to plan.  Not to worry, make up for it another day.

I am in business for myself and my success depends on me, not anyone else.

So I must budget my time wisely or otherwise “I have wasted a perfectly good day”.

Hopefully this has helped you.

Share with me your thoughts,

rebecca

FEELING YOUR INDEPENDENCE?

June 27th, 2010

3rd day of P. Crabbl workshop 003

Hi everyone,

Our country, USA is going to celebrate their national independence holiday this coming month, July 4th.

What is independence?  The dictionary say to have independence is “the state or quality of being independent; freedom  from the influence, control, or determination of another or others; an income sufficient for a livelihood”.

I would hope that everyone would want to have control of their lives.  Be able to live, work and be with the people of their choosing.  Naturally not all things fall into place as you want or plan but given the big picture, you want to have the control paddles.

I fortunately at a young age, fought the system and did what I wanted when I chose to.  I was not selfish about it because I did have respect for my family and friends.  But for example, out of high school, I did not dream of marrying and having a family, rather I was looking to explore what was out there in the world for me.  People mocked me, thought I was crazy not to have pick what they considered the secure route.  Recently I went to my 50th high school reunion and although some of them are still happy with their decisions, I would have been totally unhappy.   I had gone to college, finishing in 10 years with career changes, spent 2 years overseas as a Peace Corps Volunteer for the USA government and found my passion to be a ceramic artist and art teacher.

Now I have added to that list of great of passions, yes I found my partner in life and we now have 9 grandkids and I found the thrill of being a true network marketer.  It started with my finding a company that fit and suited my needs, then a motivation business partner, a system for me to market my business and now I am an international trainer for a global team.

Are you following your dream of independence, are you happy in what you are doing?

Maybe today is the day to change!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

enjoy,

rebecca

FOLLOW MAMA DUCK!!!!

June 21st, 2010

 12046905544QCnp0

Hi everyone,

I always hear that you need to make clever titles for blog posts to get attention.

Well here goes.

FOLLOW MAMA DUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is an absolute fact……one of the biggest reasons that people fail or lack success in their network marketing business is because they do not followup with their new prospect that has answered the ad, gone to their prospecting site, or just in some way shone interest in what they are promoting.

There may be many excuses why this happens.

"They are not really interested in talking to me, the phone is too heavy, it is their dinner time, they said they are going on vacation, their children are home from school, I am too busy right now, I will do it later, or………….."

Gee I can think of many other reasons but………..

I have been hearing since I became involved in network marketing as my new JOB….."just only business", the fortune is in the follow up.  Pick up that damn phone and call your new prospect¸ new hot lead…..

And do it right away, not days afterward, only allow minutes or hours to pass.

They become a cold lead if you allow time to pass, plus you are setting a bad example.  Unreliable, lazy, nonprofessional, too busy to care…or….in any business, 90% of your training comes with that first contact.

So make it right.

Listen to what Eric Worre has to say on the matter.

Enjoy,

rebecca

WHAT IS YOUR “IT” ATTITUDE?

June 14th, 2010

HI Everyone,

I hear many times from friends, business partners, and new people I don’t even know but start conversations anyway, about something that is really bothering them.

It is something that wants to eat away at their confidence.

Gosh all of us has challenges!

Please let me know if you are the ONE that lives in a perfect world, you are in the best physical shape,  no heart or health problems, financially free of debt  and have expendable income, family happy and healthy,  car runs good, housing situation is great…or

Are you like most of us…we have something that is not perfect….

BUT

The difference between us is: How we deal with these challenges!

Please enjoy this short video done by friend, Theuns from South Africa.

It is all about Attitude!

Do you allow whatever“ IT” is…  keep you from moving forward, change your direction or most importantly QUIT doing!

Naturally we have a response.

Disappointment, anger, sorry, mad .

Okay, stop, deal with that emotion…are you going to let that obstacle make you change your plans

For example, I have a network marketing business.  What if that prospect not show up for his appointment.  Shall I just quit!

You know best what your challenges are!

My best advice..get over it. Get rid of the disappointment.

Do something physical that is safe, take a hard walk or hike, swim, play basketball, …or  talk to someone,  with a friend, biz partner, listen to good inspiration tape or movie.

Just don’t let it eat you away….the longer you let it set, the longer it will be before you get back on you track to your success.

It is all about your attitude toward the situation.

enjoy,

rebecca
